Rare Fish

16 years is a long time for a fish to swim freely in the open ocean. There are plenty of perils and disease that can interrupt a Striped Bass from getting that old. Today we were lucky enough to catch one. Chris, his sister Nadine and Chris junior were out on the Nauset for the first time. The fish struck a deep diving Mackerel plug on a light spinning rod that we were trolling. At first we thought we were stuck on a lobster pot. But when I took the rod out of the holder I could feel the broad strokes of the massive tail as it peeled line effortlessly off the reel. Chris junior did a great job listening to instructions and not panicking by trying to force the Striper in too soon. And after what seemed like forever, a massive tired Striper was landed. A once in a lifetime fish for sure. Congrats Chris on landing a trophy Striped Bass. Tight lines! Hope to see you out there.
